BSA606-Auteur Theory
The way we watch each film is dictated by the director and their ways of creating their movies.
Each Director has their personal creative control over their movies, this was not so common in earlier days because of the big film companies.
Studio Ghibli has their own well respected and well known style that makes it clear that it its a film by them.
I think the Auteur theory has had an interesting impact on film criticism, since film critics can base their critiques on the directors auteur
This cover looks pretty creepy.
Hayao Miyazaki
- Ever evolving worldviews and tropes
- Always features a young female as the main character
- Soft, painted backgrounds
- Soft characters
- Personal History evident in films
Walt Disney
- Female saved by heroic male
- Bright colours
- Based off of actual fables
Tim Burton
- Creepy asthetic
I am on the fence. While films definitely have a specific style that is credited to the director, it isn't a one person show. All of the collaborative decisions and behind the scenes work create the style of the film. A film is created by many people, not just one.
